Rocky Lawrence supports Benoit Viellefon and his Orchestra at The Nightjar, London – 28th May 2011 | The Weekend Has Landed

Rocky Lawrence, famous the world over for his interpretations of the Robert Johnson songbook, comes to the Nightjar for one night only to support Benoit Viellefon and his Orchestra.

Lawrence has performed with Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker, and as a trio with Honey Boy Edwards & Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones. A 40 minute set from 9pm, followed by the excellent vibes of resident band Benoit Viellefon and his Orchestra.

One of the hardest working swing bands on the circuit, Benoit Viellefon’s Orchestra includes musicians that have played around the globe many times over since the 1960′s, and recorded with artists such as The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, John Mc Laughlin, Georgie Fame, Bob Marley, The Skatalites, Trojans, Lili Allen… to name the most famous among a list that also includes many international jazz and world music big names!

Benoit Viellefon – Vocals & Guitars – Band leader
Mark Huggett – Drums
Geoffrey Threadgold – Double Bass
Pete Watson – Accordion & Piano
Eddie Tantan Thornton – Trumpet & Vocals
Dave Shulman – Clarinet, Tenor, Alto, Soprano Saxophones
Hugo Simmonds – Clarinet, Piano

How Mr Viellefon manages to attract such illustrious performers remains a mystery but, hey, never look a gift-horse in the mouth. Just praise the fact that they exist, they’re tight and the Nightjar is the perfect set for their swinging sound.
